The Greater Detroit Resource Recovery Authority (GDRRA) is a quasi-public agency responsible for overseeing disposal of the city's municipal waste. Members of the Authority are appointed by the mayor.
Manages the waste-to-energy incinerator. In 2010, the City entered in a contract with the Authority that committed it to incinerating trash until at least 2021. Detroit Edison buys the power produced by the incinerator.
The Authority was advanced $22,554,159 by the City in fiscal year 2009. The Authority is planning on paying back the advance in $3.5M yearly increments between 2016 and 2023.
Board members are appointed by the Mayor of Detroit. GDRRA Board of Directors as of Nov. 2009: Charles Beckham, Chairperson; Alfred Jordan, Vice-Chairperson; Pamela Scales, Secretary/Treasurer; Sheila Johnson, Board Member; Norman White, Board Member.
