Alex Garza was born on February 13, 1994, in Detroit, Michigan; he grew up on Detroit’s southwest side. He graduated from Annapolis High School in Dearborn Heights, MI where he served as the student council secretary. Alex is currently seeking his bachelors degree in Public Administration from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
In 2009, Alex was the recipient of the State of Michigan service award for going the extra mile to help his local Democratic State Representative organize in the community. Until early 2010, Alex worked for State Representative Rashida Tlaib’s District office as an intern. From mid 2010 until early 2011, Alex worked as the Campaign coordinator for Tlaib’s re-election campaign, helping her reach a victory of over 93% of the vote in the general election. From mid 2011 until early 2012, Alex worked as an Legislative Aide for Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh.
Alex served as President from 2010 -2011 for Youth Voice, a local youth organization in Detroit that holds public officials accountable to their commitments to improve education, safety, and job access for Detroit youth. In his spare time, Alex mentors middle school children to get them ready for their high school career.
Currently Alex is working as an Field Organizer for U.S. Congressman Gary Peters's re-election campaign.
